Schola Cantorum of Eau Claire is a 12-voice choir in the Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley area dedicated to the a cappella vocal music of the medieval, renaissance, and baroque.

In tumult and strife, music has served as the bedrock for those who seek renewal and comfort. Our program centers on two periods in European history: the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, during which Catholics in England suffered prosecution and oppression; and the time of the Thirty Years War in Germany, where battles between the Catholics and the Protestants devastated local lives.

500 years ago, then Catholic scholar Martin Luther penned a litany — now known as the Ninety-Five Theses — of complaints against the Church's practice of selling indulgences. Thus was planted the seed of Lutheranism, and subsequent movements of Reformation.

Our spring 2017 program will commemorate this groundbreaking event with music that were used in the early days of the Lutheran church.
